hey guys i'm going to be buying a new heat sink soon to go with the 4930k cpu and was wondering if it would work with my motherboard.

heat sink: Noctua D14-2011 Dual Radiator PWM CPU Cooler : NH-D14-2011
motherboard: Gigabyte z77 - d3h

also, before i purchase the 4930k, is that compatible with my mobo too?

thanks.

Solution

Dear, you'll need to buy Z87 series mobo having LGA-1150 socket for this CPU. Also you should be considering using liquid cooling solution for this CPU if you are into OC.

Happy Hunting!

Thats completely wrong. i7 4930k requires a LGA 2011 socket motherboard of the x79 chipset in order to work. Z87 motherboards DON'T support the extreme editions of i7 by any means...

would the Asus Sabertooth X79 Motherboard be a good option? it says it has:
Chipset Type : Intel X79 Express
Processor Socket : LGA2011 Socket

It is compatible, but you will need to do a bios update

ah got it. thanks a lot, appreciate it.

Pl accept my sincere apology. I got it mixed it up with other thread. This CPU is 2011 socket compatible not 1150. And yes X79 supports it but it would be best if you upgrade the BIOS just in case. Sorry again.
