What do you mean access the internet? To communicate with the router, you'd have to be going over the internet anyway.

What I'm asking is what you want to do with said router? Are you trying to make it appear to sites that you're connected via it?

Unless you have a good upload speed on your remote router, that's going to slow your internet down too.
It depends on the router as to whether you can set up a VPN, but you generally need to have access to the config interface, which requires being on the local network (unless you've already got remote access set up).
You generally should set that kind of thing up before going overseas. Do you have anyone who could go around and get physical access to it?
