How long will it "last"?

I'm in the market to build a high grade gaming PC around March this year. Looking at around a 1800$ budget (box only) I'm most likely not going to touch it for a good long while. How long do you think I would be playing games at decent settings for? 3 years? 5 years? Longer?
Anybody think its worth the wait for Broadwell CPU's or the GTX 800 series?

Thanks a lot!

Solution
If Ur Neither In A Hurry Nor Desperate, Just W8 For The Broadwell CPU's As Intel Claims Them To Be Around 30% Faster Than Haswell

And Dont Get Hops On 800's GPU's Yet, Its Gonna Be Long Before We See A Decent Series Like 870, 880, 860 Ti

And I Mean Like Maybe 2 Years More For Them To Start Appearing ... (Am Not Sure So Dont Count On That, But I Expect A Min Of 18 Months Before They Show Up)

That Said ... With A PC Like That, U Wont Be Have Any Problems With Playing Games For More Than Half A Decade And Close To A Decade And Even A Decade If U Dont Mind Playing @ 25 ~ 35 FPS With Ultra ~ High Settings @ 1920 x 1080

Dont Listen To Anyone That Says Otherwise

Cause I Bought A 2k PC In 2006 And It Still Plays Games Like Dead Space 3...

It really depends on whether it's 'urgent' otherwise just wait it out for the bigger and better technology, for instance like you mentioned the 800 series and the Broadwell CPU's. But sure a gaming PC with that sort of budget would last probably maximum 3 years without upgrades to be honest maybe less..

Cause I Bought A 2k PC In 2006 And It Still Plays Games Like Dead Space 3 , Mass Effect 3, Nfsw Rivals, Bioshock Infinite, Skyrim, Metro And Pretty Much Anything U Throw At It With Decent 25 ~ 30 FPS At Ultra ~ High (With AA Turned Off And Low Shadows) @ 1440 x 900 (That's My Max Monitor Res Btw)

And I Still Dont See Any Point In Upgrading My Old PC Anytime Sooner, Cause It Just Plays Anything I Like To Play

I Gotta Say Am Highly Satisfied By The Old PC

And Am Not A Person Who Updates Every 2 ~ 3 Years (Cause That's Just Ridiculous, And I See It As Waste Of Good Working Parts And Money)

Once I Buy A PC, I Expect It To Sit For Long (Really Long, If U Can See Clearly)

Just Trust Me, It Will Lost Nearly A Decade And Dont Ever Listen To Anyone Who Said Otherwise

Just A Small Tip - Always Chose A Big Monitor With Rather Smaller Res (I Suggest 24"Or 27" With 1920 x 1080) Cause Lower Res - Games Run Better Even When Ur GPU's Outdated By Half A Decade. That's Just My Personal Preference

it is hard to tell as no one really knows other than intel, I am currently using an i5 2500k which i bought in 2011 and still runs games extremely well, without having to upgrade or overclock. But theres no point buying a k without overclocking so i have mine overclocked XD

Seeing as how the vast majority of new games are console ports, and new consoles are amd fx8xxx cpu's but hamstrung to 1.6 gigahertz, (about a 3rd of normal speed) a brand new build should play everything on the market at reasonable settings for over five years. You may get 1 or two games at the end you might have to run on lower settings.
This is going by recent history. for eg, a top end 2008-9 quad core will still play new games at playable rates at mid settings.

Broadwell will be a die shrink of haswell, so performance increases will be in the region of 5 %. It is unlikely broadwell chips will be available to purchase before august ,and maybe not till christmas. They will be heavily loaded price wise because of demand. There is nothing to gain by waiting.

Thanks guys! You are making my face smile.
I'm glad to hear that I will get a good number of years out it - that is what I expected from dropping 1800$ (That is about 20 000 South African Rand by the way!) on a Gaming PC
Keep'em opinions coming! :)
