Hey guys, I just finished my first ever PC build. Much to my surprise nothing caught fire and things are actually looking good.

There are, however, a few problems, one is with the performance of my Samsung 840 EVO SSD (link), the other one is a much bigger problem and is probably caused by my Sapphire 280X Toxic.

The problems with my GPU are as follows:
There are visible artifacts (black squares, other stuff such as in the screenshot below which was ironically taken when I was researching this exact issue). Also OCCT reports thousands of errors after a few minutes.

*the card never got hotter than 60* during OCCT and just shy of 80° during a 20 minute Furmark run.

I have already updated my Catalyst drivers.
As mentioned in the title, the card is running at stock speeds. (It does come factory overclocked though)

My System specs are as follows:

MB: Asus M5A97 Evo R2.0

CPU: AMD FX-6300 @ stock

HDD: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD

RAM: 1x8gb 1600mhz ddr3 (borrowed from another PC)

GPU: R9 280X Toxic

PSU: Corsair CX750M PSU

Please let me know whether there is anything that I left out. Or whether there are any test I should run.

I did not notice it within a game yet but I only really played swtor for like 10 minutes and I think regardless of whether it happens ingame or not this is not acceptable for a brand new high end card.

Update:

I just played BFp4f (which is essentially BF2) and for some weird reason there are no (visible) artifacting problems there. As soon as I alt-tab out of the game though, I have the problems again. Within the game the only problem I have is screen tearing (I assume the game does not use V-Sync). In SWTOR, however, I do unfortunately have problems.

Hi guys, I'm getting this artifacts problem playing DayZ, BF4 and so on...It's really annoying.
I've tried to contact Sapphire support but they couldn't helped me out, they just said to RMA the GPU.
I've tried almost everything, reinstall drivers, downclock the card, change PSU...nothing fixed the problem.
You can see it on my YouTube video:

I'm in contact with many other owner of the 280X Toxic that also have this issue...someone get the replacement but without any advantages, the artifacts are still there also on a new card.
What should we do? Still wait for new drivers or do you think it's a physic problem?

i have the same problems. from flickering, shard like gray/multicolor textures on screen, checkerboard artifacts (aka z-fighting) etc. i have tried numerous possible fixes including more than half a dozen drivers but those never worked.

although, underclocking and turning on vsync/ forcing vsync on works for me to reduce the times those artifacts occur.

im on my 2nd 280x toxic, the first 1 i returned after just 4 days of testing but sadly both cards exhibit the same symptoms. ive read posts from people returning 3..4...5 of 280x only to get the next one exhibiting the same problem. this issue isnt limited to the toxic. ive also seen it in other non sapphire brands.

im keeping my fingers crossed that proper whql 14.1 drivers will fix this issue or a vbios. im starting to get used to the artifacts on screen. most of the time the alt tab in and out of the game works wonders well.. almost... doesnt work though for COD ghost.

this is my first time to encounter such artifacting in games, browsers, desktop. my previous sapphire 6850 never had any such problems. Its going to be 4 yrs old in a few months and still running fine.

That's bad...btw I've just found a post where a guy has received an updated vBios from the support of Sapphire and it fixed the problem. I've just replied my ticket asking for the last vBios (I have the oldest one of august 2013 - 113-C3865001-T03) and I know that there is a new one of november 2013 (113-C3865001-T04).
I'll wait for a reply by the support.
