OK so i recently upgrade to an asrock extreme3 motherboard witch has usb 3.0 output on the rear. I was getting 48MBps with my wd elements 320gb external usb 2.0 drive in those ports. Having read that i`d get faster speeds with a usb 3.0 drive enclosure i bought this one from amazon http:// when i plug into usb 2.0 port i get 34MBps but when i change to usb 3.0 port i get a maxium of 2MBps. Was wondering if someone could tell why this is and if there's any way to fix it. Thanks.

there`s no advanced or power tabs under usb 3.0 root hub. The rest of the of the usb hubs say full speed, but i did notice under openhcd usb host controller they say bandwith 10% and one also says usb composite device 2%

it might not be USB 3 problem at all there other things that can cause slow speed

to eliminate best to test your computer with other know working USB 3 device,
and test trive on other known working computer

Defective enclosure you just buy,
The drive inside started acting up
Corrupted drive data (right click the drive, >properties> Tools> Error Checking)
Some program Like antivirus auto checking the plugged in drive on the background.

to name few

I don`t have any other usb 3 devices to try but i get 36MBps in the usb 2 port, and the drive works fine when attached via sata.

the speed will be determined by the Hard drive inside and the capability of the enclosure (sata to usb 3 bridge),
the interface (in this case USB 3) can't speed up the speed beyond the physical limitations of the drive itself.

thou the speeds with mechanical hard drive and USB 3 should be ~50- 100MB/s reading and around ~50MB/s writing

Those numbers are in MB/s Megabyte Per Second

but on your post you say 41MBps witch is megabit per second

so 41MBps is actually 41/8= 5MB/s witch is dirt slow USB 2 speed slow

Really? i though megabits was Mbps and megabytes was MBps. Anyway i meant megabytes per second and at least the drive is usable now, A big thanks to everyone who tried to help with this.
