I'm really leaning towards asus maximum and the formula. The sabortooth is still appealing but I think the formula would be better. The formula adds more power inputs and the watercooling ability straight out of the box. One question for anyone with the formula or knowledge of, the watercooling blocks on board are aluminum and ive read not to mix that with copper (which is what the die is for my cpu block and gpu block, so should I not use this for watercooling then?

But I'm a big fan of asus, maybe go msi but really big fan of asus and never done me wrong. Board price $200-400, more towards 200 unless there is a benefit from a step up, like maximus is great, but formula adds a lot of features I believe worth the price difference.

I'm coming from a fx 8350 overclocked to 5.1, will be going to i7 4770k and heavily overclocking, and love on board features.

Rest of my system is corsair 540 case, 2x intel 530 240gb ssd raid, 3x 3tb sagate hhd raid, gtx 770 but will be upgrading once new nvida gpu comes out probably going 780ti unless the new ones are that much better, have custom water cooling, 360mm rad, 240mm rad, and 140mm rad. D5 pump on 170mm photon res, raystorm cpu block, xsps gpu full water block, 16 gb vengeance ram, ultra 850w plat psu, raid bay for 3 3.25 hhd's with 80mm fan, 2nd 80mm fan for exhaust on back half of behind motherboard section of case.

Are you going to be going more than 2x in SLI? if so then the Extreme would be a good choice, if not you'll probably be happy with the Hero, that's the one I decided on, currently running at 4.6 24/7 with my 4770K, and 32GB of 2666 Tridents, this weekend will be kicking it up with a pair of Asus 780s in SLI, sound is great, should handle most anything you want to do. ;)

You are most likely already mixing anyways with an aluminum radiator. You need a corrosion resister to add to your water to prevent the damage. Over time you will have corrosion no matter what with either material mixed or by itself.

Thanks, hero maximus would be the lowest I would go, the formula adds some definite features that I would like. As far as the mixture of aluminum and copper, that makes perfect sense. And glad to know that feature of the board isn't all in vain. The only thing the sabertooth really has I guess is all the on board sensors which I watch probably to much.

I do like/want the xtra 4 pin power that the formula offers over the hero, plus the on board sound. The whole watercooling ready is just a plus, since I do have custom loop with plenty rad space, why not just throw on a compression fitting that I already have a bunch of.

Is the msi x board any good? I've spent several hours again today looking at different reviews, plus have spent over 12 hours previous, which pretty much narrowed me to asus hero/sabertooth/formula. Anyone have any knowledge or comments about which one of the asus boards to go with. And things to think about on each or perhaps features on each that would benefit over another. Don't really care about sound, but higher overclocking potential is most important, I guess monitoring and cooling second highest factor, usb ports another factor.

Formula and extreme have better features so they are a bit high in pricing. Asus are best in motherboards, unless you want to overclock I would always recommend ASUS to people ! Sabertooth is also good but when you compare it with the Maximus series I would choose Maximus.
I have never tried MSI boards nor recommended because had no need to since Asus is really good.

What about the top end maximux v or whatever it is. On sale now for $379 normally $400. Reviews ive seen on it are 100% positive, and the rig oc panel handheld thing seems like during over locking it would be a real nice tool, and then a real nice monitor for system temps and such.

Like I said, I'm upgrading from a very very comparable processor that by no means needs to be replaced, but I am. So since I'm already kind of wasting $500-600 on this upgrade for mini.al performance difference, a hundred or so more for a mobo if its a better board makes sense to me
