Hi everyone,,
Ok so ill try and describe my situation as best as I remember.
Firstly about a month back while playing a game on my desktop my computer suddenly shut off, it restarted on the next attempt but upon doing so I noticed the cpu fan was not spooling up.
Then I investigated the heatsink checking for thermal overload and sure enough I could have cooked an egg on it. I immediately shut down the pc [Working fine but cpu fan gone]
So the next day I installed a new fan and fired it up and we were back to normal, or so I thought until a few days in when playing a game a loud pop came from the back of the pc and everything went bye bye.
Damn its the bloody PSU I thought..I scanned the rest of the pc and nothing smelt burnt or no caps had popped, I decided i would open up the PSU and check for damage, nothing seemed out of the ordinary but it was a pretty big pop that time the pc went dead so I kept inspecting. Found the internal PSU fuse to be burnt or black enough that I couldn't see through the clear glass.

So I decided to buy a new PSU which arrived this morning, So out with the old and in with the new,
crossed my fingers and turned the system on.. GREAT.. It came back to life and off I went playing games, 5 mins in and POP system shuts down. Now I'm in trouble I thought, attempts to restart in vain, not a single light or movement of any kind.. Blew the trip switch on the breaker too.
Did a continuity test on the fuse for the PSU Chord and its not blown ..

Bummer guys... I dunno what to do now

Heres the system specs
Old supply was generic cheap PSU 600w
New PSU is Corsair 500w cx50
Mobo Ma770de
2x4 GB Kingston hyper X 1300 ddr3
CPU. AMD Phenom x4 960t black edition
GPU Sapphire HD6850
HD western digital caviar blue 320Gb

Thanks for reading

make sure your electric circuit of your home is safe i.e. not shorting. Looks like your psu is trying to save your rest of your pc with abnormal current or any bad wiring or socket of your house. Secondly confirm that your power supply is passing out standard tests of your country like amps, frequency, voltage.

I will disassemble the Pc Tonight and see if I was shorting anything anywhere.
I Hope the new PSU isn't dead really... Spent way too much now, Just got the new MSI R9270X GPU aswell this morning, thinking the new supply would work fine.
500w is more than I need anyways The cpu is only 130 full load and the GPU is rated at 170 full load .
Other than that I have 1 HD and a disk Burner, usb mouse and keyboard .

I might try changing the gang socket as the light on it sometimes flickers or goes out, But it still runs the monitor and speakers ok.

I bought the PSU in the uk so its the same ratings as Ireland where Im Living [Thats ruled out]

This is one of those times I wish PSU'S had an LED to let you know if its working or not.

if it turns out to be your bad socket; i would suggest you to change the location of speaker as well as monitor too. You never know how long will they go on and then suddenly PHEW!
Blowing the trip switch on breaker tells me its concerted with socket and wiring thing where your pc is plugged :D

Turns out that the power supply has blown again.. I put a jumper on the ATX to try and start the Psu fan and that was a no go.. Problem is.. I still don't know what happened.. If I buy a new PSU again, will the same fate await it ?
Could be the motherboard but on close inspection I cant see any damage... Should I buy a new board too ?

Just wondering about that time the computer shut down through thermal overload and wonder if this might have done damage to the motherboard.
But the rock in the mix is how the circuit breaker in the room tripped !!

did you get your socket wiring(where you plug the power supply plug to mains) tested? Or have you tried changing your pc location to other socket of your house?

No I didn't get the power tested, I'm living in my mates house and he ran his desktop that I built for him in the same place I now run mine for a year without problems, That's not saying there cant be problems! Of course there could, but I actually had the Psu plugged into its own socket while the monitor and speakers were on a ganged socket.

Any rate, I tried the computer in the kitchen and that's where I learned it was dead. Did the jump test on the ATX connector to even see if the PSU fan would come on and that failed so..

Somehow I get the feeling its the MB but my cost to get this computer going again is spiralling up.
New Cpu fan
New 270x GPU
New corsair 500w PSU

Now another PSU and possibly MB.

Sucks man, f**kin sucks...

Cheers for the help Pal.. I will take the computer apart and check the Mobo for shorts, The last time round I just disconnected everything except the Cpu and chasis speaker.
I wonder would Corsair Customer support would say if I told them my new PSU blew up..
Its too new to just leave there.. Even getting it repaired would be cheaper no ?

you might want to look harder for the problem you are experiencing. I hope it gets sorted out soon.
Just call their Customer Support, if they don't provide any help with your psu; other option is always available to you to get it repaired from qualify experienced person.
