Windows 8 networking nightmare

After the mother of all crashes last weekend, my Windows 8 PC now has some network issues. The crash would merit a post all by itself, but the upshot was that I finally reset the computer and re-installed Windows 8 Pro. I'm still a little traumatized at losing all my settings etc. but am trying to move on!

With the new install of Windows 8 Pro I can connect to the internet just fine through the ethernet connection to my ATT 2Wire router. I can also connect just fine if I use the wireless connection. The difference is that when I use the ethernet connection I cannot see the rest of my home network nore join any homegroup. However when I connect using the wireless connection, I can see the home network and I can also join the homegroup created on another networked computer (also running Windows 8 Pro).

I really want to use the ethernet connection rather then the wireless. I have spent HOURS and HOURS trying to troubleshoot this. I've called Bill Gates every name under the sun. I'm pretty techy, and have been doing this kind of thing for the last 20 years, but I'm not that savvy about networks and this has me stumped and crazy. I'm amazed at the levels of confusing complexity that are built into something that I assume is supposed to be easy for the average computer user.

Help? Please. Life is too short to waste on this! (Feel free to give solutions that might seem obvious to you. Anything except use the troubleshooter because that is totally bloody useless.)

(replace bill gates name with router name)

start cmd.exe as a admin
run
ipconfig.exe
find your default gateway ip ( mine is 192.168.1.1)

start up your internet browser and enter in that ipaddress
and it should pop up with a username and password required to access your router
enter in your router username/password
find you selection for wireless security and turn of any AP isolation
or any other feature that protects the wireless side of your router from talking to the wired side of your router.
anyway that is my first guess

Happy to give it a shot, but I'm not confident messing with my router settings! Can you tell me how to do that on at ATT 2wire? Thanks!
