Hi

I got a new phone on 29th January 2014 which is a Sony Xperia M. Basically whenever I turn on the wifi on the phone my computer will disconnect from the internet and will not reconnect until the wifi on the phone is switched off.

Some help would be much appreciated thank you.

Sorry, I misunderstood your question. For some reason I thought you had a wireless phone system that was interfering with your router. What you've got is a smart phone using your home wireless router for Internet.

I've never heard of such a problem. Could your desktop and phone be trying to use the same IP address? I know it's not likely, but it wouldn't hurt to check what address your PC is using before it's kicked off, then check the phone after it connects.

As said above, this involves your ROUTER and how it handles wi-fi devices.

I've also never heard of this disconnecting another wi-fi device.

I imagine this would have to be solved by changing some settings inside your router, or possibly disabling and reenabling wi-fi for your PC. Your ROUTER settings are managed through the PC via a web browser. Your router manual has details.

You could also see if it works when you have SECURITY disabled (like WPA etc) but I wouldn't stay like that.

If you're stills stumped, look at the Forums for both the phone and router, and perhaps contact Technical Support for both.

Things to try:

1. Physically turn off the router, PC and phone, and UNPLUG the router/Gateway device.
2. Turn on the ROUTER/Gateway first and wait a few minutes.
3. Then turn on the phone and try to connect.
4. Now turn on the PC with the phone running.

Other:
1. Uninstall and reinstall the wireless drivers for the PC, then reconnect
2. Try disabling Wi-Fi security and restarting the phone and PC
3. Contact Tech Support for the Phone, Router and/or Wi-Fi device in PC
4. Try a DIFFERENT Wi-Fi device if possible for the PC (about $30 for a USB Wi-Fi receiver but maybe a friend can loan you theirs. Needs drivers.)

Good luck.

I bought my sister the same phone and just found a fix - The router is probably using the n wireless standard so i found out that my PC wireless does the same - what i did was:

Change settings on all PC's and laptops so that their wireless standard is on g

The phones and mobile devices automatically connect use n or g if its not available but i found that if the PC and mobile device is on n then it kicks the PC but if everything is on g then it still works but to save you time just turn the settings on your wireless card or USB adapter on the PC to g and it should fix

Hope it helps!
