I was thinking to sell my 2 6950 (OC to 6970) and buy one R9 290. I'm not sure if this help me get better performance but it will resolve problem with crossfire drivers issue like COD Ghosts. I'm gaming at 1080p on I7 920 OC to 3.8 12GB RAM and 850W Corsair Gold PSU.
Any advice?

If you are having performance issues with the 2 cards in CF, that yes, I would opt for the single R9-290 if possible. Apparently the issue isn't simply CF micro-stutter, because I have used a pair of HF 7870s with the beta driver and it all but eliminates m-s.
