Hi all! I am having some problems with my gtx 780 that I have paired with my 4670k at 4.2 . When I was playing bf4 I noticed at some points my frame rate was going down so I pulled up msi afterburner and was seeing my gpu usage going from 99% all the way down to 53% for no reason and its always jumping around. The same thing for Batman Arkham Origins when gliding around gpu usage and fps are down. If anybody has had this problem and know what is wrong please help!

My first question is did you overclock the card? Doing so can seriously damage the card if done incorrectly. I would also make sure that you have the latest drivers.

No I have not overclocked the card (dont really need to at the moment on 1080p) and I do have the latest drivers

Hmm... This does seem strange Since it is a good video card. The only way I could possibly think to do to increase the GPU /CPU usage is to Open task manager while the game is running and set the game as high priority and background programs to low priority. I do this all the time while playing minecraft, It helps with chunk loading speed a lot when I set my PC to use more of the GPU/CPU power to the game and less to other programs. If this doesnt hellp I'm sorry but I'm not sure of much else you can do.

What is the gpu and cpu temperatures when the sudden drops happen? Could be throttling. Although the cpu and and gpu you have should handle the game plenty, Unless you just have some cooling issues.

Ill try the task manager thing next time I play. The temps on the gpu never go beyond 62c at 99% usage the cooler is amazing and the cpu is being cooled by a h80i I haven't monitored it in game but will try next time but I don't think its a problem.

Okay let me know the results. I also have a 4670 and a corsair cooler and it does wonders. I agree it's probably not a cooling issue either, although it is a possibility. We'll try and narrow down the factors.

Okay just played some more bf4 today and the cpu was running at around 98% the whole time with bf4 using about 88-95%. I monitored the temps using HWiNFo64 and the max was reported 74 degrees so thats seems fine.

High temperatures don't seem to be an issue for the CPU but what about the GPU?

Do you have an old GPU you can plug into the system and see if you are still getting low usage?
