I built a new pc today specs are Intel 4930k, msi x79a-gd45 (8d), 32 gig of corsair ballistix tactical (4 x 8), corsair h80i, Samsung 120gig ssd.

I am using my old psu and graphics card both only about 8 months old and been working flawlessly, asus gtx 650 ti and corsair cx500m (500 watt)

When I turn on my computer the fans power up pretty loud when the light comes on, on the h80i the fans for the radiator slow down. The computer then does nothing just keeps running with no display, the light on the graphics card is green if i remove power it goes red, I have checked all 3 power to the mobo are connected and remounted (the 24pin the 8 pin and the molex), also remounted ram and graphics card.

I think it is either
1. power supply under supplying pc so not functioning.
2. ram is not on recommended list so maybe incompatible
3 faulty mobo

other not all 3 lights on keyboard are always powered and when connecting mouse it lights up for a fraction of a second the turns off.

cheers guys

Have you connected the additional power to the graphics card (one 6pin)? Did you use either all 4 black or all 4 blue memory slots? That "molex" connection is only if you use all 6 pci slots. Try removing it as you are not using them all.

Filled the 4 black slots as stated in the mobo, the 6 pin is connected, I tried removing the molex and it has made no difference. What do you think the problem is?

just been though it all already tried it all apart from pluging in cpu fan header. I have now done that and no luck

do you think it could be ive only got a 500 watt power supply or the ram?

exactly the same as when it is installed, the system fires up, the 2 front fans on the cases fan controller (fractal r4) fire up at controlled speed. The two fans on the h80i fire up at full speed then when the light on the h80i turns on the turn down in speed.

I have also tried 1 stick and tried with all sticks in a single stick configuration. Unfortunately there is no bios readout on the board and it didnt come with a speaker so going to pick one up in the morning if i cant solve it.

what do you think the problem is?

Have you tried the gpu in more than one slot? How are you connecting to your monitor? Is it correct that you have only the one ssd for disk storage? Does the disk activity light flash when you boot up? Can you try a different display? Does the video card fan spin up on boot? Your issue is no display. If it was memory compatibility you could still boot to bios and you usually will get an on screen error about it. So let us say no display is: Bad video card, bad MB slot, bad connection between MB and monitor or bad monitor.

I have found the solution maybe worth adding to the list. I am using a 4930k which is supported by the motherboard and is stated as supported on their website. However when the board was originally released it was not supported, my motherboard was manufactured last feburary meaning its been in a warehouse for a year. In that time the bios has been updated to support the 4***k/x cpus. But my mobo doesnt have that bios version (12.04 and above) mine has an older version (most likely 10.01)

So I am going to need to flash it with a 3***k/x cpu installed, as I don't have one lying about I will need to get a shop to do it costing me more money. Not happy about it but at least I am pretty sure I have a fix

I did do that, I bought the board because it supported the CPU and clearly states that on their website.

It doesnt have any cautions about not supporting certain cpu based on age of board. This is somthing I feel msi could really have made more clear. It seems that this is becoming a more common issue another reason y boards should support flash from usb without requiring a system boot. As anybody ordering this board doesn't know how old a board they will get. So is really clueless to what cpus there board will support. Thank you for your help and suggestions and I guess it is kinda on the list. Cheers

I would do some research on M-Flash. I'm not sure how it works, but maybe it's worth looking in to.

I hope you get the problem figured out. I'm sure that's a very nice motherboard, but I've been burned enough in the past by MSI boards that I now avoid them like the plague. Their customer service was so bad at one point I ended up keeping a faulty board I had ordered for a client system because of the run around they gave me when attempting an RMA. I was under a tight deadline to complete the system, so I ordered a board from another manufacturer and never did get my money back from MSI.

Anyway, sorry for the rant about MSI. I hear their new boards are pretty nice, but I won't be finding out for myself anytime soon. Let us know how things work out.
