Do all of these things work together? Do I have to use ECC memory? This is a small workstation/gaming build. I wanted to get close to i7 perfomance, but i'm not going to pay for IGP when it will NEVER be used.

P.S I already own the ram,so I don't want to hear about paying the premium for the flashy lights. I bought them for $50 last year.

No real reason for the mobo, i've always bought AsRock mobos and I like the HDMI In option. It also seems like the only good mobo I can find that's not full-on server grade. I'm also sort of a storage junky, I can't help but to fill every SATA port with spare hdds, i've currently got the FM2A75 Pro-4 and all of them are occupied

I saw the 1230, but I can't find hardly any benchmarks of these things anywhere (gaming benchmarks). As far as I know, The 1230/1240 is better than a 4670K, but not as fast as an i7. If you guys think the 1230 is a better option I would be able to get an H60 or something with it instead. Does anyone have either one of these CPUs, maybe tell me if the performance is going to be better than an i5 4670K? If not, I could buy the i7, but i'm saving for a future car and college so i'm picky about keeping a certain balance of money.

Was going to say maybe get the extreme4.

The 1230v3 is exactly the same but .1ghz less which is not going to make a difference. The i7 isn't even worth it unless you oc on the 4770k. Oc 4670k to around 4.2 and it'll be around the same performance as the 1230v3. I'd say games/software that won't use 8 threads could be better on the oc i5 but even stock it should have no issues. I'd say to go with the 1230v3, don't get the h60 and probably put that extra money into a better gpu or somewhere that would actually affect performance. A cheaper cooler will still be cool and quiet.
