Hi all,
A couple of friends of mine are making a short film (29min) in with Poser 2014. They aren't very technical so they've asked me to help them pick out a new computer to improve the rendering process. The computer they have now has an i5 processor with 16 gigs of RAM and 2 gigs of VRAM. It's renders are very slow and are jerky if there is a lot of movement.

My question is what should they look for in a new computer? I was going to suggest an i7 with 32 gigs of RAM and 4 gigs of VRAM. Some things I've read lead me to believe I should focus on getting the fastest possible processor and a lot of VRAM. What is the best way to setup a system for this?

Also, is it possible to chain their current computer to the new one for more power? I guess what I really want to know is what the best course of action is. I've heard of setting up a server farm, is that a possibility?

Thanks in advance for any advice,

I was looking at either the Intel Core i7-4770K or Intel Core i7-4820K.

The rendering software (Octane) is designed to use GTX cards. I'm wanting to put in as much CUDA as possible with out going into the $1000 a card range.
