I have currently have:
AMD fx-8150, cpu
Arsock 990fx fatality, motherboard
gtx 780 ti, gpu
16 gb g.skill sniper edition, ram
corsair rm 850, psu
seagate 2tb harddrive
windows 7 64 bit

I mainly play high end games on the highest settings such as Battlefield 4, but I haven't been getting quite what i want out my gtx 780ti since i got it. I suspect its my average cpu..
I'm not sure whether to just get a new AMD cpu or go all out on a new mobo and intel cpu?
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
I also plan on upgrading to windows 8 and an ssd in the near future :)

Solution
The FX-9 series require much better cooling than that of the FX-8s.
They are really just out of the box OCed, which is good for GPUs, CPUs not as much. Get the 8320/50

I would grab an 8320 with a good cooler and shoot for 4.5+ for half of what the i7 would cost. You won't see that much of a difference with an overclocked 8320 vs the 4770. Really comes down to what your willing to spend.

why spend almost 400 for the 4770k and a motherboard when he could get an 8320 and overclock for 140 along with even a 140 liquid solution like the kraken for under 300 and will be just fine for a single 780. Granted, it takes an 8320 overclocked to around 4.5 to be about on par with the 4770k but if you have the money to spend the OC'd 8320 loses to a similarly OC'd 4770k. Up to you whether its worth the extra 100 maybe more. You could probably pull 4.5 with a hyper 212 evo for 30 dollars bringing the cost to under 200 dollars for an fx that pretty much equals the 4770k for half price.

so i just had a look at the joint where i normally get my pc stuff from and i can get a 8350 for 239 but for 289 i can get a 9370? Would it be worth the worth the extra 50 bucks?
and yes i know these prices probably seem high, but i live in Australia and our dollar is weak at the moment so if i was to ship from the u.s it probably end up being just as dear.

I wouldn't at any time get any of the fx 9xxx processors, I wouldn't even consider the fx 8350..
Because they are a overclocked version of the fx 8320.
Why pay more for something you could do yourself in a minute or two.
