Hi, i'm making a new build and i was wondering if there would be any performance difference between a new wireless nic and my 2005 wireless nic. I wonder because i'm getting 52mb/s, my max internet speed, with the old one, but i only have 2/5 bars of connectivity since the router is across my house. If i get a new wireless nic, will it effect performance overall and have a better signal using the same antenna? If so, any reccomendations?
Thanks, Mason

You will need to upgrade both the router and the nic. If you only upgrade one or the other it will run at the slower of the 2 speeds.

If you are getting the rate you pay for from the ISP and you are not experiencing a problem with your current configuration this pretty much falls into that category if it aint broke don't fix it.

You can not go faster than your ISP connection you buy no matter what nic you buy. If you can get 52m that is very fast compared to what most people can accomplish.
With the new build, try using the old card since you already have it. In use if you are not satisfied with the performance get a new card. There are different types of PCI cards available and whatever you install, make sure it is a 'Wireless N' card. There are newer standards like 'Wireless ac' but most computers and other home devices cannot utilize the new 'ac' standard.
