Hi,

I have a Grandstream DP715 dect phone which is attached to my Ubuntu PC and is set up for incoming calls through Sipgate. What I would like to do is route outgoing calls through my usb attached mobile phone which has an unlimited call plan.

Is this possible?

hmmm interesting.. I guess from a technical perspective there's no reason why not.
It would just be a case of someone coding it.
I've had a quick google and there seem to be a few people out there coding and toying with this idea.

I think what you need is is a SIP to GSM gateway on your phone. You didn't mention what type of phone you have.
This looks the most promising that i can see: http://www.appszoom.com/android_applications/communication/bonrix-voip-auto-dialer-sip_fgioj.html

I dont know if theres another aproach which allows you to use the phone as a USB dial up device of some kind? that may be one for the ubuntu forum :)

Hi and thanks for taking a look at my problem. I have a Nokia N8 connected to the Ubuntu PC which is providing my internet connection on an unlimited plan. I then have the Grandsteam DP715 connected to the PC ethernet which I use to receive calls from my sipgate number. I could add credit to the sipgate number for outgoing calls, but being a tight Yorkshireman, it seems crazy when I have an unlimited call plan on the mobile which is already attached.

My mind just went straight to plusnet adverts there lol.
I'm from Northumberland myself.

Well I'd say the goal remains the same. you need software that will make your phone the sip gateway, or a sip gateway and dial out in response to a sip call.

I think its a matter for intensive googling around those terms or learning to code the app yourself.
I think there's money to be made from such a project from what I can see.

Oh that's windows mobile *breathes in loudly through teeth in best impression of a builder giving a quote*

I've had a look and there are a few projects looking at using 3G dongles as a GSM gateway for calls. It might be a way to go.
