Hi guys,

I am a complete newbie to this, so please excuse my ignorance..

I have an external USB Hard drive that I would like to connect to my TV and also NAS. My reason for doing this:

1. I can transfer movies, etc to the external hard drive via NAS, without having to physically connect my laptop to the hard drive.

2. When the usb HD is connected directly to the TV, I'm able to fwd, rewind, etc whereas movies stored in NAS that I try to watch through TV, does not allow me to fwd, rewind & resume playing from where it stopped.

3. If the usb HD is connected to my Tv & NAS, then i will be able to first load the movies into my usb hd, so I can watch them with all fwd, rwd options and then once done, transfer them to the NAS. (Because NAS has higher storage capacity)

WHAT I HAVE DONE SO FAR?

I have got a USB Y splitter which i have connected to my external HD, one end connects to TV and second USB point connects to my NAS. I had to also get a female to male usb extension to extend reach onto the NAS.

Issue is I am starting to discover that the usb HD only permits access to either NAS or TV at a time. Any way I can have it accessible to both devices simultaneously?

I hope i haven't been too confusing with all the info, if anyone can suggest alternate solutions which can achieve the same results I would be really grateful !!!

Thanks in advance :)

Thanks mate for your reply, just curious as to what is the purpose of a Y splitter usb cable? I thought it was to connect multiple devices, is there any other use?

What am I missing here?
