NVIDIA GPU support for 4K Resolutions

All GeForce GTX 600 and 700 series GPUs can support 4K resolutions through DisplayPort. The NVIDIA driver automatically detects 4K 60Hz tiled format, so no special user set up is required. In order to power games at this resolution with settings turned up NVIDIA recommends GTX 780 SLI or better.

A 780 Ti or a 290 can run games on a 4k monitor at 60 Hz if you lower the details a bit (you don't really need AA on a 4k <28" monitor). And you can always go sli/crossfire later to further improve the performance. Although i personally recommend 2 290 for a bit of future proofing due to the vram and bandwidth. the 3 GB on the 780 Ti is enough for whats now but it might pose problems 1-2 years from now. If you can afford 2 titans (or the black titan) then get 2 of those instead of the 780 Ti for the vram or you could get 3 7970 (the ver with 6 gb of vram) but 3-4 way sli/crossfire is not very good performance/$ right now due to not being supported very well and you would need dam good cooling in your case.

You could try a R9 280X but you won't be able to play on very high settings.

2x r9 290s. They're still about the same price as the 780 and perform better, especially at 4k. The extra gig of frame buffer is really almost needed as well, as if you look at reviews, some games try to use more than the 3gb on the nvidia cards, becoming unplayable.
