Hi all,

This is my first post on Tom's.

I have a 4 years old i5 750 2.66GHz system, and I'm looking for advice how to update it.

Would someone please help?

I spent a small fortune when I bought it so would like to see if I can just upgrade components to play the games faster, loading SimCity is a bit slow at the moment.

My system's specs:
CPU: I5 750 2.66Ghz
MOTHERBOARD: Asus P7P55D LE Intel P55 Chipset SLI/CrossFireX DDR3 LGA1156 ATX Mainboard w/ 7.1 HD Audio, GbLAN, USB2.0, SATA-II RAID, 2 Gen2 PCIe X16, 2 PCIe X1 & 3 PCI
RAM: 4GB (2x2GB) PC12800 DDR3/1600mhz Dual Channel Memory (Corsair XMS3 w/Heat Spreader)
HDD: 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 16M Cache 7200RPM Hard Drive
POWERSUPPLY: Tagan 780W TG780-U33II SuperRock Power Supply
VIDEO: ATI Radeon HD 5850 PCI-E 16X 1GB

I am thinking of adding more RAM, say adding 8GB. Is it better to have 2 X 4GB than 1 X 8GB due to the "dual channel"?

I've looked up SSD a bit and it seems it would improve my PC performance yet it seems I need to reinstall Windows 7?

I won't be considering replacing the graphics card since I think it's since adequate for what we play.

1. Get another 4GB (2x2) running at 1600MHz. 8Gb would be enough for gaming.
2. SSD only improves loading times and not the actual gameplay (FPS). So no use of it really, and you'll need to reinstall Windows.

you can choose the ssd from this list, 120GB or 240GB
use the ram below and replace the old one. 8GB vs 12GB is no different.
