I was sitting in the other room, and heard a loud bang. Everything had shut off, and the fuse blew.

The psu was originally plugged into an old, backup power surge protector - cyberpower cp550sl.
Could this be the cause? I had no idea, but I just looked it up and it said output is 330w.

After it blew, I tried plugging the psu directly into the wall, and it blew the fuse again when I turned it on.

I also had my studio monitors, tv, router, modem plugged into the same surge protector.

All of this is running off of a 15 amp fuse... don't know if thats ok or not??

I know Seasonics are pretty good.... any chance the rest of my pc is still alive?

What should I do to prevent this in the future?

Specs -
seasonic x1250
asus sabertooth 990fx motherboard
amd fx8350 - 4ghz
32gb ddr3 1866 (4 sticks of 8gb)
geforce gtx770 (4gb)
asus xonar sound card
1- 1tb 7200 rpm hd
1 - 256gb ssd
bluray writer
antec kuhler h20 620

Solution
that's fine, what caused the initial problem was the 330w surge protector, i think. i'm surprised the psu is damaged, if anything it should just have been shut down by the surge protector in front of it.

it sounds like the surge protector is toast, try plugging the psu directly to the wall and with another cable, the psu should not have been affected actually and the rest of the pc components should definitely be ok.

edit: try also another wall socket and/or a socket in another room

tried plugging psu into different socket (different room/breaker) and nothing happens.

I've ordered a 1000 watt seasonic psu to replace the fried one - hopefully this will be ok.

looks like the most i'd be drawing is 11 amps total on a 15 amp breaker.
is this too much to be on 1 single surge protector?

Will definitely look into the warranty... never hurts to have a spare psu anyway. Couldn't bring myself to wait 3 weeks for a replacement.

Getting the new 1000watt today. This should bring my max load down from 13 amps to about 11.
