Hi,

This is another of those "mixer works but no sound" issues, except nothing seems to fix it. The sound has never worked.

I have very recently built my own beasty computer with i7, 16GB ram, 2TB HD, 128GB SSD, Formula VI MoBo and a GTX 770 4GB Classified graphics card.

I have installed the drivers from the disc, the sound didn't work. When I plug my speakers/headphones (I have tried several) into any of the sockets (tried all holes, both front and back) I get a popup confirming that the computer has detected speakers. If I play any audio (I've also tried multiple sources) I can see that the mixer is definitely registering sound.

So... I uninstalled the drivers that came with the CD and installed updated drivers from the manufacturer's website - this still didn't fix anything. So I have worked my way through many forum suggestions trying to solve this issue still with no avail. I have tried changing my default device and looked for disconnected/disabled devices. I have tried fiddling with the Realtek audio manager but the options are very limited - especially as it knows what I have plugged in and so limits the options to what actually applies to the device I'm using. Even if it didn't, I can't see any options that would fix it anyway.

Any help would be really appreciated as this is driving me slightly mad. I have considered a hardware fault but as I'm using the built in MoBo sound, I can imagine I would have more than just sound issues if this was the case?

Thank you,

Charlie

Defect in mobo would explain why the rear panel jacks don't work.

Do you have the AC'97 AND HD Audio front panel plugs?
If yes, have you tried swaping the connector from one to the other?
If yes, then next thing to do is install a sound card or return mobo to vendor or RMA with manufacturer.
