Can a bad PSU cause audio problems?

I'm hearing weird sort of crackling/buzzing noises in the left headphone that last 2-3 seconds and are sometimes preceded by a drop in volume of around 5 seconds. This can happen periodically every 10-20 minutes or even just once an hour - it seems kinda random.

The headphones themselves are perfectly fine, I only experience this issue when I plug them into my PC and not when, for example, listen to music on my phone. Though strangely enough, if I plug in some cheap old earphones, I never hear any noises...

My question is - what could be causing this?

I know my PSU is kinda going bad, because my PC as of late tends to shut down when I play very demanding games on high settings, could that component be the culprit?

Another thing could be my speakers -- basically I plug my headphones into a port on this sort of extension thingy that is connected to the speakers. Perhaps that is causing the noises? I've had it for several months now and it used to work fine.

I haven't tried plugging the headphones directly into the back of my computer, because the wire on them is very short. I'll try it out though.

The audio port on the front panel doesn't work for me, sadly.
