Hi guys. Please help my pc Packard bell imedia x2414 keeps shutting down after a few seconds. I have replaced PSU 4 times this year but it seems to be a short term fix. When new PSU goes in the PC works fine for a while. I have replace the PSU today but the problem started again just after 3 hours.

I have tried everything I could think of including

disconnecting all possible hardware
reseating the processor and resealing the heat sink
wiping and reseating RAM and testing one stick at the time
clearing CMOD and replacing battery (even testing the battery upside down as I read somewhere)
checking all wire connections
getting rid of any possible statics

If the pc gets as far as bios, it only gives one short been which should be normal.

The only thing what seems to work is putting yet another psu in. But the old once which it doesn't work with any more look ok and there seems to be no problem with them when put on power supply tester.

Anyone any ideas how to get rid of this problem?
Will appreciate any suggestion

You might not have enough wattage to support the CPU. Or you could have a bad motherboard.

Easy fix I've seen the same before, I'm assuming this computer has some age too it, and that means that your problem is the motherboard is stuffed.. Basically as it ages the capacitors and what not start to work less efficiently to the eventual point where it just is not working well enough. I'd replace the motherboard

hi and thanks for your replies. The PSU was 650W so it should have been enough I think.
I have ordered mother board testing card - still waiting. Bit concerned that to change MOBO is more than I would manage as I have never done that before.

One think that I cant not understand is why the PSUs that it stopped working with are visually OK, don't make any strange noise and past the power test, too... ?
