As the title says I am looking for a motherboard for overclocking my AMD FX-6300. I have a couple in mind but I want to ask some questions first. The ones I've been looking at are either 970 or 990FX chipset. My first question is how much does either of these chipsets affect my ability to overclock? I ask because from what I've read so far people say that a 990FX motherboard is only better if you plan on having a multiple GPU setup ( which I don't ) But I've read others that say 990fx is better than 970 for overclocking anyways. Is this true? Should I invest a bit more money on a 990FX motherboard even though I don't plan on getting multiple GPUs, or should I just get a 970 motherboard? Also can someone explain power phases to me? I read that this is important when picking a motherboard for overclocking. Sorry for all the questions, but I just want to be well informed before buying another motherboard. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this and takes the time to answer me.

THE 970 motherboards I've been looking at:

GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3P

ASUS M5A97 R2.0 AM3+

990fx motherboards:

ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 AM3+

GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+

Would definitely get the 990 if you can. Can't go wrong with either of those too, though I would prefer Gigabyte. Always best to get the better board, as most companies generally use higher quality parts in their higher end boards. If you don't want to spend the extra $35 though, the 970 is still a great board.

The Gigabyte 990FXA UD3 is some serious OC material. This motherboard has been rated as one of the best sub €150 motherboards in the world.
The M5A99FX 2.0 is also amazing. Even more stable than the Gigabyte UD3.
However the UD3 has certain features such as power inlet placing that is better. It also looks sleeker. And, honestly, the BIOS is better.
