Brand new build. Just installed Windows 7 64-bit a few days ago. I've only just noticed yesterday when I attempted to install Office that my DVD drive (LG GH24NS90) disappears from Computer and the Device Manager after about 5 minutes after booting.

I've noticed that right before the drive disappears the led on the front of the drive blinks green and then...poof, gone! It seems like it's just shutting down after a period of non-use.
The weird thing is that when I scan for hardware changes in the device manager or run the Microsoft Fixit scan then the drive will reappear in both Computer and the Device Manager for another random amount of time.
I'm using an Asus H87-Plus mobo that has 6x yellow sata 6G (all configured for AHCI mode) connections. This mobo doesn't, as far as I can tell, have a Marvell controller (I've seen a few cases where this was the culprit). I wasn't able to locate anything in the bios to disable a Marvell controller either.
I've tried swapping cables and also connecting to a different sata connector, same symptoms. I have a feeling it has something do with the sata controller? Any ideas/suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!
