By new or is overclock good? FX 4100

I can get my fx 4100 overclocked to 4.2ghz on stock voltage of 1.3625 and i have got it to 4.6ghz with 1.5v is the 4.2ghz a good overclock and would it be worth $150-$200 to upgrade to a fx 6350 or fx $8350? temps for 4.6ghz are 40c idle and max 50c and temps for 4.2ghz are 30c idle and max 45c what should i do?

It would be worth upgrading because overclocking makes a small increase in performance. Get a better CPU and overclock that one instead. Good idea isn't it

I agree with ahmeday. Just drop the 4100FX. It's an under performer anyways. The Second gen FX CPU are way better. A 6300 would be better.

What motherboard do you have?

asrock 970 extreme 3............i know its an oler cpu but would an upgrade to a 6 or an 8 really have a big difference?

I think it would. A 6300 or a 6350 would be able to support higher end graphic cards. The real way to improve performance is to upgrade the CPU or GPU. And the first gen FX series were/are garbage.
