I accidentally bumped a connector on the motherboard when upgrading. PC crashed and I'm having trouble booting from the original disks. It says windows is bypassing my start files and goes to command prompt.

I got into the bios boot settings and selected boot from CD and then saved it but it didn't help.

I suppose it goes to Safe Mode with Command Prompt... so, see if you can launch the System Restore from the Command Prompt. If it doesn't solve the problem, try a "CHKDSK C: /R" ... and if it doesn't help either, you'll have to check for possible physical damange caused by the bump and correct it. It may be a bent or broken power pin, lose connector, lose wire, etc. double check the motherboard power connections and check that all connector pins are intact. Also check the motherboard is fixed tight on backplate... if it's slightly lose, it's possible the bump moved it slightly on the bronce standoffs and possibly caused an electrical/digital short.
