I need a new hard drive. Can i make a recovery disk now and then use it on my new hard drive.

It should work but there's a grey area with some PC manufacturers who make it difficult to activate a new installation if the hard disk wasn't bought from them. Make sure there's a Certificate of Authenticity which clearly displays the Product Key in case you need it later. You could also clone the existing system on to the new disk.

I use a programme called Acronis True Image but there are free cloning utilities if you search the net. Acronis can resize the existing Partitions proportionately to the new, larger disk so I find it worth the small amount it costs - around £23 British.
