My wife and I built a new PC after her old one died, with the following components.
Case:Appevia X-Hermes BL
Motherboard:EVGA X58 FTW3
Processor: Intel i7 950
RAM:Vengeance 16GB DDR3
Graphics:NVidia GeForce 660
Hard Drive: Western Digital 1TB

For some reason the power buttons on the case aren't responsive, and the machine needs to be booted manually through the power buttons on the motherboard itself.
After figuring this out, the computer was finally able to boot up and install windows, however abruptly powered off shortly after booting up the OS.

Any other info you need me to provide, I'll be happy to.

I'm hesitant to bring it back to the local repair shop since they take 2 weeks minimum for something as simple as a poorly seated CPU, or RAM stick.

UPDATE: was able to reboot via mother board, and it seems okay for the moment, just updated windows 7 to windows 7 ultimate with no issues. yet. Still worried about the non-responsive power buttons, but I think things might be going in a positive direction?

Well, power button responsiveness can be related to anything... like button itself or your mobo or the psu. But since the button on the mobo working fine I'd say the power button on the case might be the problem.

If I were you I'd run couple of stress tests to see if the pc runs stable and temperatures are allright. If the reboot problem persists then try to run with a single ram stick and integrated gpu to see if one of these help you to find the problem.

if you have access to a multimeter you can check for voltage at the power button.if you have voltage to one side and depressing the button doesnt start the computer then the button is at fault.if no voltage to the power button check connections back from the power button to the mother board.make sure your power button is plugged in to the correct socket on your mother board.

checked the RAM using the sticks on my other rig. nothing changed.

Not sure if the lights on the motherboard would be turning on if the PSU was shot. But I can try transferring psus if you think it might help
