Can you use RAM that is not o the QVL?

I am using 2x4gb of KHX ram with an XMP profile. It was real easy to set up the 1600mhz profile. I think this ram is on every Asus QVL. I am looking into some faster RAM that are not in the list. There really is not that many choices for 2x8gb or 1600 or 1866 for the Asus p8z77 v pro. I imagine you are able to use any ram. I remember with older PC's just getting any ram in there and it would work as long as the ram was not dead or faulty. I would like to get G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 2x8gb hope it works....

Go to the G. Skill website and use their RAM configurator program/app. Just tell it what motherboard you have and it will list all compatible memory that they make. (Many memory manufacturer's have this program/app on their website as QVLs are rarely 100% accurate)

Thanks for the info I never considered going to the RAM vendor websites. I the ripjaws x was appealing because of the price point and the satisfaction ratings on newegg. I find that if a product has at least 60% 5 eggs then it is a solid product. Just iamgine how many people buy something that don't have problems with it and don't write any review at all. And even though people buy it else where then newegg they still write reviews there.

Excellent point. There is another point to it. Many users don't even use these sort of platforms and they are not into giving review or something which will be helpful for other persons to decide. They just buy and start using it. That's it.

Pl close this thread if you've found the RAM.

That page seems to be down it did work the first time but now it "cannot be displayed"

Yeah there is hardly any ram to choose from on the QVL in anything higher than 1600mhz.
