Hi Tom :D
Specs:
ASUS Maximus VI Hero
Corsair Vengeance pro (2x8gb)@1600/CL9
intel i5 4670k
sapphire tri-x r9 290
zalman z11 case
stock cooler
PSU: Corsair gs800
Toshiba Q series 128GB SSD (OS)
Seagate 1TB HDD
Monitor: Dell P2414H

Ok we just built this rig with my friend, and it all looks fine- we installed OS- MB Utilities- Drivers-we set the ram to 1600 via xmp . We ran memtest - We checked temps on hardware. Funny that the psu fan wasnt spinning at all(only during POST). Prolly 800W is overkill. The only little problem was that the HDD led on the zalman case wasnt lighting.

And after we turned the system off- we realised that the psu switch wasnt working. we turned tha switch off and the lights on the motherboard stayed on. After that we powered the system again via turned off psu. Obviously theres something wrong with the switch (RMA psu?), or maybe are we missing something? ty

Light on some mobo will always on in off mode except in full off mode (cut the electricity off), it works as signal/warning that there is a power connected (electricity on so u don't mess with component while it on)..

If his computer booted with the switch turned off though then its not the mobo. A better question is why do you care if the psu is always on?

Try cut the electricity off.. unplug the power cable from Wall socket ... see if the mobo light will go off...

if it goes off then the PSU may not be the problem,,,

for HDD light, make sure u connect it to the correct pin... (they quite small)..

I'll explain more clearly. The system is turning off normally. Only the mobo safety light stays on (normal). When I shut the psu off, the mobo light stays on, and the computer is able to boot. If I unplug the PSU, the system turns entirelly off(Light goes off).

@rdc85 so you think the psu is ok?? I think it too but I also thinkthat the on-off switch is dead.

@Heroesneverquit As for what do I need this switch... well I dont know if its ok to just unplug the PSU if I want to configure hardware inside-the-case. And after that I think it sucks paying this lots of money and something isnt working right. The psu HAS a SWITCH to turn it OFF so it SHOULD work!

Anyway, I will probably RMA the PSU... but until then u guys think it is safe to use the system?? I really wanna run some more tests but we are afraid to turn it back on... maybe the psu is bad idk..

Lol you will be fine. There is a light actually on the motherboard to the computer I have open that is on all the time. Its on unless I unplug the PSU. As far as the switch goes I would not even worry about it. You will not really be in the case enough for it to matter. The computer I have open that I am using to fix bad hard drive sectors does not even have a switch on the PSU. Even on computers that do have the switch I will still unplug them just to make sure that there is nothing going to zap me.

I understand what you are saying. But, my only problem with this, is that I don't have a working power switch which means that my only way of turning off the PSU is unplugging it.I don't know if this is harmful to the PSU, or if it's identical to flipping the switch. Anyone can answer this question??

No its not harmful lol. Why would you think thats harmful? So long as the computer is off you are all set.

So after turn the switch off and give couple of minutes for the Capacitor to drain out... it still on (able to boot)..

Yeah it a broken switch.... U can ask for warranty claim (RMA)...

Btw I'm always unplug power when modifying, safer that way :D
