Hi,

I'm having a problem with a AMD Radeon HD5450 graphics card. As soon as the card is in place the PC starts to freeze up and restarts itself (blue screen first) or simply freezes and needs to be tuned off by holding down the power button. This happens at various stages (after windows boots up and before). the specs are:

Motherboard: Asus P5v-vm DH SE
Intel core 2 duo e4400 2ghz
3GB DDR2 Ram
PSU: Turbolink LC-A420ATX (i think this is 420w)

It works fine with the onboard graphics capability if I remove the card. I have tried resetting the CMOS.

I'd try updating the driver but the computer won't run for long enough to actually do that with the graphics card in. I did manage to get the installation disk to run though so they have been installed from there (along with catalyst control etc).

Any ideas?

Thanks

I haven't tried that, no. It was reformatted only a few weeks ago though. It was given to me with windows xp installed, which I upgraded to 7 and also added an extra 2GB ram. Do you think that could be the problem? I'd rather not reformat as it will mean reinstalling all of the drivers and software again.

I'm wondering if the PSU is the problem. Other threads I have looked at seem to indicate it's a pretty poor PSU.

Obviously I could try reformatting but I thought there may be other, simpler possibilities I could look into before doing something that major. I seen a couple of mentions of updating the BIOS? is that something relatively straightforward?
