I've been running my current setup for about a year. I'm no expert on cooling, so forgive me if I say anything silly. I have a major issue with dust buildup on the filters and the back panels, I think my case is sucking out a lot more air than it's pulling in but I have no idea. I have yet to mount a side fan because my current CPU cooler is just too big to fit a standard 120mm x 25mm fan. However, I recently discovered Scythe's line of 120mm x 12mm fans and think it'll do the trick.

My main goal for the fan is reducing dust build-up: should I mount it to push air out of the case or pull air in? What size fan should I buy--they come in four sizes:

Model / RPM / Db / CFM
SY1212SL12SL 800±25% 19.53 19.40
SY1212SL12L 1200±10% 21.71 24.03
SY1212SL12M 1600±10% 28.89 38.05
SY1212SL12H 2000±10% 33.67 45.47

The H model is out of the question as the PC sits in my living room and noise is an issue.

Thanks in advance, sorry if it's a little too specific a question!

I've owned that case for 5yrs and never had a dust problem.
Probably because I don't have my cases on the floor. It's 18" off the floor on a small table.
A side fan in my experience only adds more dust when used as an intake.
That's a great case as far as cooling goes.
Try raising it off the floor,i think your dust problems will be reduced.

My home is inherently dusty--the windows are all open 8 months out of the year and we've got two cats running around. I could try a side table but I am not sure it would make a big difference. I'm also interested in the new fan for cooling, as my 3570k runs at 4.5ghz 24/7. I suppose I'll try both the new fan (still waiting on advice for mounting / CFM choice) and a side table!

It's clear there's a pressure problem, as dust collects on every possible opening to the case.

Trust me! raising your case off the floor will cut down the dust.
I use an Ikea lack side table they cost $8.
Btw I have one cat and two dogs and I'm lazy when it comes to vacuuming(bad back).
My cat lays right beside my case on the table(little ah heck!)
