Hey guys,

After almost 8 years of having my HP Compaq nx9420, I think it's time for a new laptop!

What I am mainly looking for is something futureproof. I will use it mostly for web surfing, emails, watching movies and maybe a bit of casual gaming (desktop is not an option as I move around a lot).

This i what I have in mind:
HP Pavilion i7 3632QM 2.2 GHz/15.6"/4GB RAM/500GB/Radeon HD 8670 2GB

Please note that I can't afford something more expensive.

Thanks

So, what you've done is gone for Intel CPU. You can save a bit by using, say, and AMD APU and get a top-of-the line A10 processor. You can then CrossFire the CPU's graphics with that of the GPU (this is actually automatically done by the drivers) for a system that should do well in games for years to come. Plus, you'll be able to funnel the CPU savings into other areas like larger hard drive, more memory, or laptop bags or warranties (not all at once, though, you'd be waaaaaaaaayy over budget).

Hope this helps!

P.S. I just realised I may have been confusing, APU is just a fancy name given to AMD's A-series CPUs because marketing.

Thanks for your reply,

I should have mentioned that, because of where I live, I am limited to buying my laptop (15,4-16 inch) from this store:

http://www.bionic.com.cy/catalog/partlist.aspx?CategoryID=460

Please note that I can't spend more than €700,00.

Also, note that the two Toshibas with the i5 4200 (which cost 699,00) come with an Nvidia 710 and NOT 740.

yes for under 700 thats the best one on that website. The GPU is kind of one the weaker side but since you said light gaming it should be just fine.

The HP you linked to would still be very good, and HP laptops tend to have good specs at good prices: Both my little brother and I got HPs because of this. Only thing is a bit of flex on the top of the lid, but the build is solid everywhere else- good keyboard deck and palm rest, although they're plastic. However, invest in a cooling pad: their cooling doesn't tend to be outstanding: A good cooling pad should set you back ~20 dollars.

4GB is enough, but Win8 works beset with 8GB or more. I definitely recommend ensuring you have two matching memory sticks if you do upgrade, i.e. x2 4GB 1600MHz rather than x1 4GB 1600MHz and x1 2GB 1333MHz, as this improves overall system speed.
