Ok, so I do Graphic Design work on a professional level from home, but I also like to play a lot of games "Company of Heroes 2 / COD / TitanFall "(When it releases)" etc.. But I need a new monitor, I am currently looking to get a:

ViewSonic VX2370SMH With a response time of 7ms

My question is, because its an IPS, and the response time is 7ms, when most response times are 5ms, Will I notice this playing my FPS styled games ?

Solution
I went from a CRT to a TN panel, didn't notice a difference minus the colors. Eventually got the LP2065, again didn't notice any performance difference, just the better colors. Going from CRT>TN>IPS I haven't noticed any performance difference, only color accuracy change. Just stick to the reviews of specific monitors you are looking to buy. Ghosting will be limited to specific models and not whole price ranges. I don't have a ViewSonic VX2370SMH, but my experience with my 8ms monitor has been great for gaming.

Do you play FPS styled games, I know that they tend to rely more on refresh rates and latency then RTS styled games which seem to rely more on processor / ram speeds. I just don't want to spend $200 on the monitor and have it look beautiful but play slow....

Also, do you notice any difference if your room is not well lit ? I have read some reviews that say the back light tends to bleed.

The response time listed in the specifications is completely meaningless, because there's no standardized way to measure it and distill it to a single number. (e.g. from 25% gray to 50% gray will take a different length of time than 50% gray to 75% gray, and then there's RTC overshoot to consider, and it gets more complicated from there) The only case where it's worth considering in a monitor decision is if you find a monitor with response time listed as 16ms or higher.

Ok, I just wanted to make sure from someone who has one, as I have read several reviews of people saying they experience ghosting.

Reviews of that specific monitor? I just checked amazon and newegg reviews and the only time ghosting is mentioned is "I haven't noticed any ghosting." And there's about 500 reviews of that monitor between both sites. Usually ghosting isn't an issue with modern displays, back when they were new tech, it was an issue.

Not on this monitor in general, it is just one within my price range. But I have seen a lot of talk of how IPS monitors ghost while the TN Panels don't have that issue.

Now, since it seems you own one of these monitors, you have owned a TN Panel I assume in the past, when you got your IPS panel for the first time, did it really have that wow factor to warrant the higher price, or was it just a modest well I guess its better ?

Also, Does anyone else know of a better IPS for $200 or less ?
