Lag Spikes / Crackling sound in games after installing new GPU

Hello everyone!
I recently upgraded my GPU from an ATI HD Radeon 5770 to a GeForce GTX 760. This has considerably increased gaming performance, but also brought me a new issue. Whenever much is going on in a game (this seems to be literally related to many different textures, animations, physics effects), my FPS seem to drop extremely low despite being excellent otherwise. Also, my sound starts to crackle and slow down.

I at first suspected a power or heat issue, but this can be somewhat eliminated since the issue does NOT occur when running Benchmarks (tried Heaven Benchmark 4.0). Even when my GPU goes up to 80°C during a benchmark, I still do not experience these lag spikes.

A driver issue stemming from the de- and reinstallation of drivers is also unlikely, as I properly uninstalled the ATI drivers and ran Driver Cleaner Pro to get rid of every trace, and installed the nVidia drivers using "clean install".

My DxDiag is here: http://pastebin.com/QR0J42HK
Power Supply is a 650W PSU.

I'd greatly appreciate any help to resolve this!

Small addendum: Windows 7 has suspiciously started asking whether it should switch to the low-def color scheme (i.e. disable transparency on the taskbar and so forth, can't think of the service's name right now) whenever I am running a game. This did not happen with the old GPU, even though it was much less powerful.
