I managed to install sims 2 and it worked, I was able to play the game 5-10 minutes then it would crash. I tried troubleshoot compatibility (windows XP service pack 3) it worked fine, but when I tried to create a sim the game just crashed. :( I went to http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/CompatCenter/ProductDetailsViewer?Name=The%20Sims%202&vendor=EA&Locale=1033%2C2057%2C3081%2C4105%2C16393&ModelOrVersion=1&BreadCrumbPath=Sims%202&LastSearchTerm=Sims%2B2&Type=Software&tempOsid=Windows%208.1 and found the game is not compatible for windows 8. I just hope that EA would just patch sims 2 for windows 8. If there is a way to fix this please let me know. For now I just play for 5-10 mintues.

Not sure what is going on with your system but I have not had any problems with The Sims 2 or 3 with my i5 3570K rig. I am running Windows 8.1 at this time but I did run it quite abit on Windows 8 before that with no problems. I would say to make sure your drivers are all up to date including the audio drivers people seem to forget those and just update the GPU drivers. Make sure DX is up to date also.

The Sims 2 does use the CPU quite abit so make sure your temp's are not getting to high. Not sure what else to say. I know that The Sims 2 is not officially compatible with Windows 8 but I have not had to use any compatibility settings on my rig. Hope some of this helps.
