Only averaging 30FPS on AC4 with 290x.

Solution
I've got physx disabled, god rays turn down, all filtering is off, looks better to me at my resolution. I'd rather have sharper image than blurring from AA etc, and I run it fine. If you're one of those people who bought a 290x and thought you could just jump into a game and put every setting to the full maximum you're mistaken. You're not always expected to tweak your options, but in games that might be somewhat graphically intensive, or poorly optimized you need to find settings that provide a good balance between quality/performance for you. This AC game is one of those, also remember just because you can turn AA to 100000000x doesnt meant that you SHOULD or that it will make the game look BETTER. Play with the settings and see what...

Did you just max every setting out? There are a lot of features that really dont improve quality and tank performance. Only time I remember dipping below 40fps was after I blew up a fort, and thats at 1440p on a 780.

Have you ever considered not using the highest settings with FXAA? Do you also have MSAA up to 8x or something as well?

With PC gaming, it is up to the user to optimize their gaming experience by using their head, and turning down/up settings until their experience is good. Many games will not allow you to max out their settings and get playable results. Even with a 290x or 780 ti.

I'm really wondering if something is wrong though, like I said other people claim their 7970s and 280x can run it fine maxed.

Most people aren't honest when they say "maxed". You see people all the time say "maxed", and fail to note they turned AA settings down, or turned of advanced DoF, or PhysX, or Ubersampling, etc...

People do that more than they don't. However, I do not know what is possible with AC4, only that it is a demanding game. Perhaps you should run a benchmark program, and see how it goes. 3Dmark11 or 3dmark should work. Just use the normal performance mode and post your score.
