I'm going to be buying a laptop for my graphic design class and I wasn't to sure if this was an ok one. I'm getting a laptop cause I will be needing to take it to and from class. Is this good or should I go for a different laptop (if so could you recommend one). I will also be doing some gaming nothing big, at most NFS or Skyrim. Maybe something that requires higher graphics down the line. My budget is $1000

Asus touch 15.6"
CPU: Intel Core i7-4500U
RAM: 8GB DDR3 (expandable to 16GB)
Storage: 1TB
GPU: Nvidia GT 745M 2GB
OD: DVD±RW/CD-RW
OP: Win 8 (I believe it is 64-bit)

On a $1K budget the Lenovo Y510P is what I have and it's a great laptop: http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/

You want at least an Intel i7-4XXXM CPU and 8GB of RAM (maybe more depending on your usage) is recommended for CS 5/6.

I would not recommend the Y510p for school use. Sure, the specs are great, and the screen is acceptable, there's one thing I must mention: battery life. It'll get you ~2 hours of just basic word processing, and will barely carry you through an average college class. This one glaring flaw stops it from being the perfect system for you.
