Howdy Pardners!

My computer is an:
Acer Aspire 5250 2Gb RAM Win 7 64x
AMD C-50 Processor 1000 MHz

and she *bluescreens at startup*, during the "Starting Windows" phase.

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x000000ED (0xFFFFFA800249D890, 0xFFFFFFFFC0000185, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000)

and, starting under Safe Mode, the last file/driver to load before the computer fails is:

windows\system32\drivers\CLASSPNP.SYS

------

Solutions I have already tried:

* F8-Last Successful Boot (bluescreens)

* System Restore (bluescreens)

* System Recover (hangs)

* Win 7 (64x) Install disc (Repair + Install separately - both hang)

* Win 8 Install disc (hangs)

* Safe Mode (reboots exactly the same)

Please help. The last significant thing that happened to this computer was an installation of Index.dat Analyzer (my son did that)....The computer simply gets to the "Starting Windows" screen, with animation, hangs for about a minute, then gives a split-second "blue screen" and restarts (now I have disabled the "restart upon failure" under F8. Installation discs, install or repair, only hang and do not work; the "last successful login" function under F8 does not work.

Thank you!

Well, in the meantime, I came up with a solution....

In the end, the actual problem was that I could not even get a Win 7 or 8 boot disc to work; despite the fact that I was sad to lose data on the computer, everything was backed up and easily accessible, and besides, I couldn't even get it to start up.

So what I did was use a Linux installation disc, and copied it to the hard drive, wiping out the whole thing. At that point, the Windows 7 installation worked.
