Your short on ram so I'm not sure. Perhaps on low.

At worst you have wasted 10 bucks.

If spending moneys not your game, you could just put up some papers somewhere telling people that they can drop off pcs they don't want at your house and you'll gladly take them off there hands. But uh, you end up with alot of cheap cases and a literal butt ton of disk drives...

Maybe, but it will run horribly:

You would have to turn down the quality settings to minimum, and the game would STUTTER and lag like crazy. It's not even smooth on the best PC's.

Your PC appears to just barely meet the Minimum.

*Why not investigate the previous game, The Sims 2 instead?

Sims 2 links:
requirements: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/requirements/...

The Minimum hardware requirements are lower, but it looks similar to Sims 3 to me with everything on high, so I think you'd have a better experience with this game.

You can jump around in this VIDEO to see what Sims 2 looks/plays like. I don't know where you'd buy it though. Somewhere (not Steam).

I agree with photon, my pc has trouble with it, can hardly get above 30fps. This is with most of the xpacs mind you.

I get close to 200FPS at times, but it still stutters like crazy even on a fresh game, and there's a glitch people have tried to fix that causes the game to run HORRIBLY after running for a few hours.

I finally discovered that running at 30FPS (via NVidia's Adaptive Half VSync) made the game stutter far less. Weird. So 200FPS has screen tearing (no VSYNC), 60FPS has NO screen tearing (VSync ON) but still stutters, and 30FPS (Half VSync) still had stutter but not as much as any other setting.

I have NOT played the game beyond four hours because the stutter drove me nuts, even at 30FPS where it was as good as you can get it.

I did try on someone's laptop (higher specs than OP's PC) but gave up after five minutes as it was a horrible experience.

Update:
1) Can't find The Sims 2 except for $50 at Amazon.
2) The Sims 3 is $20 at Steam (base game).

I'd recommend a DIFFERENT GAME, however I couldn't think of any that were similar to The Sims 3.

I'm running Sims 3 with quite a lot of expansion packs. My PC is Intel Core i5-3470 with 8GB memory and Radeon HD 6850 overclocked to 850MHz/1150MHz. How do you guys control the FPS? I'm not sure what FPS I'm playing at, and I checked all the game options but could not find the settings for FPS.

On my previous card GeForce 9400 GT, I could use Nvidia's GeForce Experience to preset the game options for optimal settings based on the graphics card capability. But on AMD Catalyst Control Center and AMD Overdrive, there is no preset for Sims 3 to know which are the best settings based on HD 6850. Should I turn on Advanced Rendering (Enable full use of 2.0+ shaders) ..... things like that.

If I cannot find the settings for FPS, I won't know what is the optimal settings right? So I need help here.
