I am new to mining and running my rig for 2 days now. I saw some info on google about mining that many mining rigs are using a riser. Is it a must? My temp is around 72-75 and VRM max is around 80.

My Specs:
i5 4670k
CM hyper 212x
gigabyte z87x-ud3h
r9 290 tri x
psu seasonic m12ii
nzxt phantom 410

A lot of coin miner people are not all that smart. That is all I can say

It will not burn out your motherboard. The only reason to use risers is if you are running a bunch of GPUs (>2-3)

I'm not an expert and don't mine myself but I'm assuming they use a riser to plug the mining card into a lower bandwidth socket (x1 or x4) as it doesn't need the bandwidth of a card running games and they don't have a spare x16 socket for it.

Thanks. Another question. If my monitor is switched off or not connected to the computer, turn off display and sleep settings to never in power options. Would my GPU idle? If it will be idle it will effect my mining.
