Recently my computer has been giving me some trouble. I built it in early 2011, so it is a few years old. It boots fine and runs smoothly for the most part, but seemingly randomly the display will go black and the computer will become unresponsive. If there was audio playing, it stops.

There is no pattern, such as when under a heavy load or when a certain program is running. Sometimes it can go for hours without this happening other times it happens within minutes of startup. I have used memtest and SeaTools to test the RAM and HDD and both passed. I swapped out my video card for an older one and also tried a different display and yet the problem persists. I would assume at this point the problem is between the motherboard, PSU, or CPU. Before purchasing new hardware, are there other tests I could run to narrow down the problem?

Here is my setup:

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black
ASUS M4A89TD PRO/USB3
Kingston HyperX 8GB DDR3 1600
XFX Radeon 6870 1GB
XCLIO X14S4P4 750W
WD 7200 HDD (x2)
