Computer doesn't go to Sleep or Hibernate?

When I click Sleep or Hibernate, the screen darkens, and then it looks like it is about to shut off... When the screen just goes right back to the desktop. I can click on the buttons over and over, and it will only just dim the screen to black, then turn on again.

I have been using hibernate for 6 months, and NOW it decides not to work.

Please help!

Hibernation has only been a problem for me when i had a USB device that refused to let it go to sleep. Besides your keyboard and mouse do you have any other devices connected by USB? If so remove them and see if you can sleep.

Now that I think about it I think there was a command you could run that would tell you what was preventing the computer from going to sleep.

Didn't work. This is really bothering me. I haven't installed any new things to stop my computer from going to sleep!
