just curious, I currently have a Core i7 2600 but im upgrading to a Core i7 3770 which uses the same socket LGA 1155, which means I can use the same motherboard(Asrock Z77 Extreme 4) So my question is, would I need to format my hard drive?

I know you have to format your hard drive for a motherboard change however this is a CPU change using the same motherboard.. so...

Solution
Get the 3770k. Not overclocking is basically wasting money. If I wasnt o erclocking my 2500k it would be a outdated processor but since I am overclocking it I just bought myself an extra year or two before needing to upgrade and its a hoss at 4.4ghz.

because like I said its a Core I7 2600 not 2600K. Im getting the 3770 but I will consider the 3770K however overclocking isn't really my thing, though the extra $20 will mean it can benefit me, however thatmeans I'd have to my a CPU cooler, hmmm

Technically your right, You can overclock non K CPUs, however not the base clock, you can only overclock the boost clock which only comes in when needed. Overclocking the boost clock as well requires motherboard that support it

Forgot to put this on insight.
I've taken the 2600 from an old dell desktop, My father would like to take this desktop for his flight simulator usage, but it's useless without a CPU, so he gave me the option of either getting another 2600 to replace the desktop or pick a new CPU to use with my build and he takes the 2600. In this case it'd be the 3770 maybe the K.

Yep, now let's hope I get it right, never done it before. I hear that the 3770K doesn't need as much volts as the 3570K so it has a lower minimum voltage when at 4.2Ghz is this true?

(watching several OC guides on this specific mobo)

Well what I did is see what kinda voltage the auto setting was setting my 2500k too then at the 4.2 or 4.4 clock I had I took the voltage off auto and put it in manual. I started from the voltage the auto setting had it at and went backwards from there to see how low I could get it before it became unstable so I could keep temps as low as I could.
