Is 1600Mhz Still Acceptable?

I'm thinking about buying the Intel Core i7-4770k but it seems to only support up to 32GB DDR3 memory @1600Mhz. Is this still acceptable? I was looking on the website from Corsair and they seem to only have a limited selection for that speed, most sticks being higher (1800 up to 2100).

Is 1600 still acceptable, will it still be in say 5 years, and if not, what is acceptable and why doesn't a high end processor like this support it?

Yes. The 1600MHz is only Intel specs for stable system, you can use higher frequency using XMP in memory higher than 1333MHz. I run 2400MHz with my Core i5 4670k and its running smooth.

I don't have an Intel CPU but I can say this much. Whether you get 1600, 1866 or 2400 if the CPU only supports 1600 then the memory will down clock to that speed.

Just get the cheapest memory you can get today. 1600Mhz CL9 or 2400Mhz CL10

With the 4770K tou can normally expect it to be able to carry up to 32GB of 2800 or faster. You install the DRAM, go into the BIOS and enable XMP, 2400 and up may require a slight CPU OC
