I've had my gaming PC for a little over a month and there is something wrong with it. This is the second time this has happened: ill boot up my computer and sign in and a few seconds later it will do the beep error message once or twice. I tried to open up my virus scanner to see if it was a virus and it wouldn't open. Nothing WILL open when this happens. I just have to restart my computer to fix it but im afraid this will lead to a bigger problem. There aren't any viruses on it so what could be causing this to happen?

How many beeps does the system make, and what brand is the motherboard?

Oh, that helps narrow down the problem a little bit, as the beeps are not motherboard error codes.

When did the problem first occur? After you installed a certain program?

answer those questions first, and then do the next steps:
Lets try a clean boot, to make sure the problem isnt caused by some software.

first, save all open programs, if they need to be saved

Then, if you could press Win + R, and then type msconfig.exe
then go to the services tab (this is what to do in Windows 7 / 8 / 8.1, Vista and XP may be different)
click 'hide all microsoft services'
then click 'disable all'
finally, reboot the computer

After the PC has rebooted, wait and see if the problem happens again. if it does, then follow these steps again and instead enable all of the services, reboot, and then we will have to get some more help from other forum members.

Im guessing the windows is a legal copy. Just making sure?

Note:
If its legal, thats all ok, if its pirated, I dont want to take this any further, as the forum does not deal with pirated software.

Anyway, all the clean boot does is stop all non essential services from loading on boot.

This means that programs such as steam, origin or other programs that normally automatically start will not auto start, and this allows us to tell if the problem is being caused by a startup program, or if the problem is windows itself.

Windows should not deactivate.

I had to do a clean boot a couple of days ago on my desktop PC, to see if an error was windows or a program i had installed. It ended up being windows in that case.

oh okay because i have windows 7 oem and i would have to contact Microsoft for another activation code. Should i just try to disable auto start programs to see if that's the problem. I don't want to go through the hassle of saving all of my files on my external drive but if i need to i will. I'm still confused on what rebooting does, does it delete all the files off of the computer?

sorry if i was unclear. the clean boot will not delete any files, all it does is stop everything that isnt part of windows from starting.
If I said rebooting, i mean restart from the start menu. restarting like you said you have to once the computer stops opening programs.
Also, kind of should have checked this. are you actually able to get msconfig open, or does the problem occur before you can press win + r ? If you cant get it open, then forget my suggestion of the clean boot.

if the problem stops, reenable all the options, and then restart again. if the problem occurs again after the computer restarts, then its a problem with some of your software
