I currently have a single drive 2TB 5400rpm in my computer running Win XP(sp3) Media ed. NTFS.

I purchased a 7600rpm SMALLER "better" 500GB drive.

I want to install Windows 7 on the new Smaller drive, and have the old Big drive be a slave. The old drive has a LOT of data I need to keep. Will I be able to access all my data from the old Big drive?

I know I need to disconnect the old Big drive, so that the new Small drive gets a boot sector etc, etc...(http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/265703-32-windows-internal-drive-windows-internal-drive) I'm just looking for a little confirmation that I will have full access to all my data on the old Big drive.

Solution
Yes it is possible and rather very easy.

Connect your new SMALLER drive to SATA port 0.
Connect your old drive to SATA port 1.

Install Windows 7 on newer drive. That's it. You are all set and your old drive will appear as it is with all your data on it.

Happy Hunting!

I would just disconnect the larger drive, install win7, let it do it's thing on the 500gb drive. Then hook back up the 2tb drive and see if you can get to everything that you need to. (making sure the 500gb drive is your boot drive).

I can't remember if winxp had bit locker or not but that would probably cause issues. But i'm guessing you will be fine.

Worst case scenario, you just have to hook up the 2tb drive as the boot drive and transfer stuff off manually
