Can games ever use more than 2GB's of vram on a 1920 x 1080p monitor?

Battlefield 4's 3 Gb vram recommendation was a myth. It didn't use more than 2.25Gbs @ ultra settings o a 1080p monitor. will/can future games really use more Vram. lets say 3/4gbs on 1080p resolutions

I have read here on Tom's you don't need more than 1GB of VRAM for 1080p.
I don't know about BF4, but LA Noire uses around 530MB all maxed out with my 1440x900 monitor.
Other games may have different results.
  3. yeah take watch dogs It will take more than 2.5GB Vram
